Will GOP Bring Hope & Relief to the City of Brotherly Love?
The Seattle Times recently reported (August 8, 1999) on a study by Deloitte & Touche that estimated the heaviest tax burdens placed on small businesses in major U.S. cities. The cities were evaluated for a hypothetical small business with $15 million in revenues and 125 employees in 1998. Most burdensome were:
City Tax Burden
Philadelphia $1,394,097
New York $1,389,570
Seattle $1,383,413
Pittsburgh $1,339,821
Cleveland $1,339,821
Except for Seattle, it is worth noting, each of these cities impose their own city income taxes, and have been less than robust in terms of economic growth in recent times.
It will be interesting to see if Republicans at their National Convention in Philadelphia next year will espouse ideas for tax reduction and regulatory relief that will not only benefit the nation, but Philadelphia itself.
