Washington, D.C. - Small Business Survival Committee (SBSC) Chairman Karen Kerrigan issued the following statement of support today for George W. Bush's nominee for U.S. Attorney General, former Senator John Ashcroft:
"We urge each and every U.S. Senator to support and confirm former Senator John Ashcroft for U.S. Attorney General. John Ashcroft is a person of impeccable character and extraordinary integrity. He is, in fact, the perfect nominee for the job, and exactly the type of individual our country needs at the helm of the U.S. Justice Department.
The objections to Senator Ashcroft's nomination are spurious. Those who worked with him side-by-side in the U.S. Senate, and throughout his successful and distinguished political career in Missouri, know that the smear tactics being cast about him so recklessly are baseless. It is disappointing, to say the least, to watch his former Democrat colleagues echo such claims in an attempt to politically weaken the incoming Administration, and cow-tow to fringe groups of the Democratic party.
John Ashcroft is a fine man and a dedicated public servant who has served the state of Missouri and our country for many years.
The good news, of course, is that John Ashcroft will be confirmed as Attorney General and America's system of justice will be much better as a result of his principled leadership."
SBSC is a national, nonprofit small business advocacy organization with over 70,000 members nationwide. A letter has been delivered to every U.S. Senator urging support and confirmation of John Ashcroft for U.S. Attorney General. For more information, please visit SBSC's website at
