Reintroduction of Fair Care Act Welcomed
February 11, 2003
WASHINGTON - Small Business Survival Committee President Darrell McKigney today welcomed the reintroduction of the Fair Care for the Uninsured Act.
The legislation, co-sponsored by U.S. Reps. Mark Kennedy (R-Minn.), Harold Ford, Jr. (D-Tenn.), Bill Lipinski (D-Ill.) and Edolphus Towns (D-N.Y.) would provide up to $3,000 in tax credits for a family to purchase health insurance.
"Fair Care would bring fairness to people who purchase their own health insurance by giving them the same kind of tax breaks that are already available to people who are insured through their employers," said McKigney. "With some 40 million Americans currently uninsured, this is a simple, sensible, and fair way to make health insurance more affordable and available.
McKigney said SBSC will be urging its members to contact their lawmakers and urge them to support the Fair Care Act.
The Small Business Survival Committee is a nonpartisan, nonprofit small business advocacy organization with 70,000 members across the country.
